We have 4 pens of cows (alef, bet, gimmel, dalet - or A, B, C, D). Here are two of them enjoying lunch.
There are 3 milkings a day. One at 4am, 11:30am, and 6:30pm. We herd the cows (one pen at a time) to the showers, where they actually get sprayed from underneath to clean their utters. Don't worry, the stick in my hand is just to hit on things to make noise - not to actually hit them.
And, of course, some calf photos. They are adorable, and enjoy being pet (unlike adult cows who general walk away as humans approach them).
By sticking a couple fingers in their mouth, you can guide them around because they suck on your fingers and will walk forward to follow them. This is usually the easiest way to get them from place to place...
Despite a cow shitting on me and another cow stepping on my hand last week, I still love it there! My coworkers are all great guys and I love working with the cows. At lunch while everyone complains about their jobs, I sit there, smile, and say my job's the best. And it is. True story :)
The calves are so cute!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should teach them to fly -- as in the beautiful folk song (which song? hint: it was originally sang in Yiddish, but then one of the greatest American folk singers of all times sang it in English, in the 60's, and made it famous).
Mommy LOOOOOOOOVES the cows :-) They are adorable, and it seem like they have good life.
